In my words

Fourth grade, and a move down the street to Paddock Lane, where I would live until I was twenty.

The world that year

Oshie's shootout, LeBron goes home, and Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U.

T.J. Oshie beat Russia in a shootout in Sochi, Tim Howard made 16 saves against Belgium in Brazil, and LeBron went home to Cleveland in July. The Seahawks blew out the Broncos, the Spurs took the Heat apart, Madison Bumgarner pitched the Giants to a title, and John Wall's Wizards won a playoff series. Mario Kart 8 landed on the Wii U in May, and Microsoft bought Minecraft for $2.5 billion.

How things looked

Material Design: paper layers, bold colour, ripple effects, floating action buttons. Flat design matured, and the iPhone 6's rounded aluminium replaced hard edges.
